Andy: I have done these before and you do not have to tear the wheel off. You can get a replacement stalk at the junk yard or E=bay. Verify that you have 3 or 4 wire stalk. I would remove the small plug connector at the bottom of the column and them give the stalk a 1/4 turn and pull it out. Attach a small string ( strong like dental floss ) to the old wires. Use that to pull the new wires down. Or solder the extensions on before pulling it out. I have cut the plug off the replacement wire as well and added a length of very fine wires to the original. Then reattach the small plug after the wires are back down. Let me knmow if you have any questions. Newer years hae the plug rught inside the top of the column behind the stalk connector. CRAIG
