: Run the seat belt through as you normally would and click it. Take shoulder harness belt and pull all the slack out of the tensioned winder that is mounted in the floor until you can't pull any further. The belt should now wind up as to take up slack but will ratchet as it does. You will not be able to pull any slack on the shoulder harness until it is unbuckled and the belt is completely wound back up. The ratchet is then released.
: To get a really snug fit I always push the car seat into the Suburban seat, allowing the car seat to be ratcheted snug into the Sub seat.
: This should work on all the shoulder restraint belts, front or back.
: However I do have one side on the middle seat that will not ratchet. Have taken it apart and have done everything I can to make it operate, no luck.
: Hope this helps and keeps the little ones safe.
: Arkansawyer, remembers that the only child restraint he had while in a vehicle was his mom's arm!
'89 R2500, I agree with Arkansawyer. Would only like to add this...I put my knee in the carseat and bounce up and down to get the ratchet as tight as I can. Yea, Yea I know, my neighbors thought I was crazy, until they saw me get out, grab the seat and rock the truck back and forth, they got the idea. This will also work in the center seat, with the lap belt only, which is where I now put the seat. Saw a car get T-boned on the same side as the car seat. No child in the seat, Luckly, since then he gets the center seat always. Easy for me, we only have 1 grandson.
Also, I just got a '04 C2500 Extended cab. Thought I'd try-out the new child restrant system...what a joke that system is IMHA The straps are half the size of the seat belt and I never could get it as tight with the child seat straps as I can with the trucks seat belts.
Another good reason for putting him in the center seat...Food has a harder time finding it's way to the window, armrest, window controls...what a mess!!!
