Think an impact wrench is the best bet.

Try to get the plug out before removing the cover, or risk not being able to refil. This could require the help of a shop.

I have been using a gasket on clean metal surfaces with correct torque and no sealer. However there's a trick I will try next change where on the side that is against the carrier, use a sealant and on the other side, coat with oil film. Supposed to make the gasket reusabe by hitting unbolted cover with rubber mallet. For sealant, something like Permatex high-tack or maybe Hylomar.

I've used blue RTV on the gasket in the past but find it wasn't necessary and is a pain to clean off.
