On my 2002 K2500 Suburban when I am in 2WD it still sounds like some of the front-drive components are rotating (there is a sliht whine and I can feel the vibration).
At the last oil change a few days ago, I noticed that I couldn't turn the front driveshaft (the shaft from the transfer case to the front differential) by hand. On my 94 K1500, I could turn it easily by hand when it was in 2WD.
On the 94 there was a disconnect in the front diff, and the transfer case disconnected it at the transfer case end, so it was not driven by either end.
Is the 2002 designed the same way? It seems to me that either the front differential is not disconnecting, or at the transfer case it is not disconnecting. Since the shaft won't rotate by hand it must still be driven by something, which would account for the extra vibration.
I first noticed the "captive" driveshaft a few months ago and mentioned it to the dealer when I took it in for another warranty repair. He claims they looked at it and everything is normal. I still don't believe he understood what I was describing to him.
Any suggestions?
