I think that the deer might run out in front of newer cars more because the headlights don't scatter as much light sideways into the woods. I made this observation about 35 years ago while trying a Dodge/Sylvania Superlite (very sharp top and left cutoff projector) as sole headlamp on my sports car. I kept seeing skinny legs running through the beam!
By the way, I have two Superlites on my Sub, but I run them in addition to the regular beams, not instead.
