I found a set of f&r axles with 4:10's from an 80 4x4 p/u for $100 each for my 91 4x4. (10 bolt front, 14FF rear)
Also do some towing with it, so that was 2/3ds the reason i went that way. Gained on the brakes (bigger roters i think on front, or at least the 'top-hat' style.. and from 11's to 13's on the rear. Replaced all brake hardware at the time, $$$, but calipers swapped over easily). Power-bled and worked much better.
Bit the bullet on tires going to 8 lug/16 as part of the deal, and mileage stayed about same (after re-calibration of speedo). Grabbed a set of factory take-offs from Elkhart, IN for about $550, so got away from the entire thing for under a grand.
Oh, and drive shafts were ok too, but it did take a special U-Joint due to larger rear-end. I'm not running a lift, but add-a-leafs on all 4 corners. It's a common NAPA/others number for the joint.
