Yes, WD-40 is much better for the motor. Ether is a little hard on two strokes. Your saw wont have any reeds. There are adjustments for both high and low speed air fuel mixure. If you don't have a manual, and are not familiar with them, it would probably be best to have it done, as it can be easy to set it too lean, and that is not good. If it is an old saw, it could just need the carb cleaned and a new diaphragm. Another possibility with an old saw is loss of compression. Compression is very important with a two stroke for ease of starting. An old motor with low compression will be a lot harder to start than a fresh one.
