The axle carrier changed between 94 and 01. 94 is 8.5" ring and 01 is 8.6". Not sure if they raised the opening or just need less fill.

Axle seals should not be affected by overfill. They ride right on the axles and other than from abrasive particles in the oil or a plugged vent, they should last 100K+. Eventually they wear a groove in the axle and both need to be changed (or use a sleeve kit).

See why I think it's crazy for GM to use a factory syn fill? The oil needs to be changed 3K - 5K range to clear break-in stuff. Then go to syn. This would have been a perfect way to get owners back into the dealership for maintenence. Instead they have you grind up everything with circulating particles in quality oil.

I'd rather see a circulating diff oil system with cooler and filter instead of things like 4-wheel steering offered.
