Have always wanted to make this mod. Saw it on an old Dodge Power Wagon that beat us up pulling butt to butt out in the Idaho Panhandle. Still had my 1973 K5 Blazer back then. Old, old guy and had a jug tied to his frame rail and long hose replacing his rear diff vent hose. Over filled the diff pumpkin and anything that would have gone out the vent tube, went up to the jug.
Flowed back down when it cooled.
Have had disscussions about this. 50/50 say great idea, others say too much fluid and pressure on the seals a bad thing.
I'm of the side of the coin thinking it's a good thing.
I over fill the diff on occasion and it self regulates the level by spitting the exess out the vent tube.
Funny memories, as on another trip down to Pismo Beach and camping out on the dunes/beach, met a different old, old guy with a Dodge Power wagon. Memories of the Idaho incident had my brother and I challenge this old fart to a butt to butt pull. Steaks on the line.
Lost both times and now know, kinda sorta why/how they beat my K5. They kinda sorta cheated because they were higher and one had his draw bar flipped "UP" so that he was lifting my rear end...so that I had less traction and he more... Young and not enough hard knock schooling...yet... :)
