I was told that if you look at the fine print, the recall covers all vehicles of the applicable years, no matter what the odo mileage.

With regards to talk about "lowest bidder gets the job" - Since the mid-80's (the vintage of the circuit board on my Suburban), the quality of these boards has been very consistent (terrible). That consistency does not fit with the idea of the product being made by various outside manufacturers/bidders. I believe that these are made by some wholly-owned GM division that no one in higher management wants to complain about lest they be sent to Fargo to run it.

I wonder if they have Suburbans in Baghdad.

: Lowest bidder gets the purchase order and they all seem to cut corners. That means solder pot or wave solder was not done right and cold solder joints on the PCB (printed circuit board).

: Cold solder joints will, in time, wick moisture and corroide the connection....making it intermittant...hence wacky wiper function.

: Mine was out of the recall by one month. They said fixed by then. Have subsequently looked at sevreal PCBs in two Chevy parts bins. They *ALL* still have cold solder joints and pointed it out to the parts manager. Don't know what they did about it, but was told they would report it up the chain.

: Best to DIY by resoldering the offending joints and regrease the slip rings.

: #1 Son's site is not working (won't jump to site) and have posted the hot link to the original.
