The hair dryer would have been helpful to loosen the glue prior to peeling off the tape. Most of the tape would have come off with the trim. There is always some residue, though.
I used acetone at the time I did mine but I wouldn't recommend it as there are better agents to get the glue off and with acetone you'll probably have to polish the area if you rub too hard.
I'd recommend GoofOff 2 (different formula than GoofOff). Sold at Home Depot, comes in an orange plastic spray bottle. The '2' formula is less potent than the original, I believe it's not petroleum based.
If you have lots of tape still stuck in addition to just glue, the best way I've found (although labor intensive) is to rub your finger back and forth until the tape balls up and comes off. Tedious and you'll lose your fingerprints for a few days, but it works.

: I am removing the side moldings on my 99 Tahoe. They come of quite ease, first I cut one end with a fishing line, and then peelled off the rest, no hair dryer needed. Is this the way to do it ? How does the heat source help in the process ?
: Now I need to clean the tape residue. I read post about using GooGone, and 3M remover.
: Question: what type of remover, is it called Tape remover ?
: Where do you buy it, Home Depot ?
: Thanks
