I've 'heard' that peeling the trim off is easier when it's cold...less sticky, I guess. Haven't tried it myself, but I'm about ready to one of these days. I'll let ya know how it works out.
I bought a commercial gadget that takes off the residue. It looks like a grinding wheel for an electric drill, but it consists of a hard rubber eraser type material. I use a variable speed drill on LOW speed to easily rub it off. Just be careful. Doesn't seem to harm the finish, but I think if ya got carried away with speed and pressure you could burn it.
There are also commercial autopaint products that remove it. Again, sometimes you can find smaller containers of it at places like O'Reilly Autoparts. Otherwise, try a regular auto paint supplier. I've used different brands of it, and they all seem to work fairly well.
