When I did mine, it was easier when it was cold - the double sided tape would just "pop" off. When I heated it up, it seemed to get gummier and stick better.
After pulling off the emblems, I then used the left over adhesive to pull off what remained (like traveler said), then followed up with GooGone on whatever didn't come off. Followed up with a soapy washdown, and wax. Still had a static charge, though - quite funny looking - there was an dusty outline that spelled out "GMC" and "YukonXL".
