I changed mine from a 3.08 to a 3.73. It made about a 400 RPM difference at freeway speeds. Among other things. :-)
The reason you're not seeing a change in the speed/RPM relationship is that the speedo reads from the tailshaft of the tranny, which is "before" the rear end gears. Since there was no change in the relationship between engine speed and driveshaft speed, you'll see no difference at the tach and speedo. As far as they're concerned, you changed nothing.
The change occured "after" the tranny, in the rear end. Thus the change in RPM shows only shows up in the driveshaft/wheelshaft relationship.
