On my 8.1 the magnet was attached to the bottom of the housing. When cleaning the assembly I noticed that the magnet moved and with no effort I pulled the magnet loose. The adhesive used must not have been getting along with the synthetic lube?? I used a JB epoxy to reinstall the magnet. This is something that needs to be checked when serviceing the rear as the magnet making a run thru the ring and pinion probably wouldn't be conducive to the units life. As an extension of Travelers suggestion for the use of the brake cleaner, it also works very well for purgeing the entire assembly removeing debris that are othewise inaccessable. Follow this cleaning immediatly by the use of compressed air,(use good eye protection as the brake cleaner will burn like hell).
