Still going to happen again and again, even with GM supplied "brand new" boards, as they still have cold solder joints.

Lowest bidder gets the purchase order, even if in house division, lowest bidder wins.

In that, there is less than adequate QA/QC, so still cold solder joints to wick in moisture, which corrodes the solder joint and causes it to go intermittant again in time. Vicious cycle till you resolder with hot enough, enough solder and allow it to cool down slowly.

Picture above is of typical cold solder joint. Notice that the crack will wick mositure, hold it there, desolve any acid/flux/etc left over from manufactering process to eat away the remaining connection, which will make it intermittant till it goes totally open. Why banging on the dash will sometimes get it to work again, as it reconnects...
