: I just received the June issue of Popular Mechanics. They have an article on changing your trans fluid. They suggest draining the pan and then removing one cooler line and letting the engine idle until no more fluid gets pumped out of the line. Then refill and you have done a 100% fluid replacement. Anyone know if this is harmful for the transmission to run it until dry? Remember, this is only at idle, not like you are out abusing it with no fluid.

Hope their lawyers are ready! That's the worst information to give the general public! Doesn't matter if it's at idle or under load! Starve that pump, or foam it, and it'll heat up in seconds and the damage is done, at least on 4L60/4L80s! Use a pressure and flow balance transfusion machine so that operating pressure is not exceeded, and proper flow can be maintained. Watch the discharge line on the machine and you won't feel so bad about the money spent on the flush.
