Holley TBI a good idea?

Hello all,

The TBI on my 1989 R2500, 5.7L is worn and I am having problems with hesitation and near stalls at low speeds. Anybody have any recommendations/experience with replacing the GM TBI with a Holley? Is this a good idea, any actual improved performance, either HP or MPG? Any other do-it-yourself recommended mods for increased HP or MPG?
