If you want to go all-out scuff up the peices well with a nylon pad (don't use steel wool on aluminum), wipe down with alcohol and spray with a self-etching primer (most autoparts places will sell you a small can) and then spray a few top coats with whatever you like.
I have to do the same with my daughter's Beretta.
