Okay, a buddy of mine and I had a BLAST yesterday when the local Chevrolet store let us test drive, by ourselves, AT THE SAME TIME a new Duramax Crew Cab and an 8100 Crew Cab! Both 4x4's, Duramax had the 3.73 and the 8100 had the 4.10. It was awesome: run after run, side by side the results were very consistent----8100 would get the jump every time by about one trucklength but then the Duramax was GLUED to the back bumper of the 8100! Time after time, from a dead stop or rolling starts, even 50mph to the 99mph cutoff, both trucks were very similar. The 8100 was just a bit quicker from time to time but it could never leave the Duramax, the diesel just kept on the boost and was right there all the time. I suspect if we had been able to hook up to a couple of 10,000lb trailers the advantage would have been strongly in favor of the diesel. FUN STUFF!!!
