I washed/waxed the Sub today, and discovered a couple of neat things.
1. Removed the "Chevrolet" nameplate from rear door in the process of blacking the thing out. I picked and pulled until I got all of the spongy foam off the door, but it left a bunch of sticky crud that was hanging on for dear life. I tried bug/tar remover, with little results. This stuff had heart! I remembered the wife using a product called "Un-Du" for taking glue off of the kid's shirts. Put some on a cloth, and wiped it on. It set for about 60 seconds, and then with minimal rubbing, the stuff came off! She said you will find it places like craft stores and scrapbook places.
2. While applying a polishing glaze with a rotary buffer, I got carried away and got the door handles covered with the stuff. The handles have a texture to them, and the glaze stuck in the grain and turned white. Looked bad. Rubbed and rubbed...no luck. Tried the bug/tar remover (Goop brand...couple bucks a can. Smells suspiciously like about 5 cents worth of kerosene.) Brushed it on with a toothbrush and it came off completely. Ta dah!
Little discoveries like this just make my day.
