Kevin, alum is a bitter tasting chemical that causes constriction of the mucous membranes...kinda' like $ucking on a lemon. I think the chemical name is aluminum sulfate, but chemistry was a challenge for me. Drugstores carry it.
I had the same problem with inconsiderate a$$hole dog owners. I fixed it by a cheap wire fence about a foot high, and a diluted solution of habanero pepper sauce and water. I'd watch the dogs sneeze for a few days, and that was the end of it. Midnite deliveries of dog manure to the owner's front porch also are effective...lots of them are too stupid to stick a plastic bag in the back pocket while dog walking.
Dogs can actually create matter from nothing...mine give me about 3X back v. what I feed them. Amazing.

: I'm not 100% sure who the culprits are so I'll try the spray. Was that aluminum? I'll try almost anything. Most of the summer my yard is unusable because of this. I'll also try the pepper that #1Son suggested.
