Sorry to get off track. The only 'kit' I know of to make an open carrier into a locker is made by Powertrax. However, I do not vouch for the strength of this unit. As Nay said above, it is a compromised unit that offers an inexpensive solution.
If you are staying on the road 99% of the time and want a limited slip, there are limited slip products offered by Auburn and Tractech (Detroit) that will suit you fine. I don't consider these kits since the carrier must be replaced by the aftermarket unit. Installation is best done by an experienced shop since the setup will determine the longeavity of your gears.
For on-road performance driving look to limited slips. Off-road it will be an advantage over an open differential. More importantly is how you drive and where you place your tires to maintain tractive effort.
