it is not characteristic or normal. Properly set up gears are silent, or at least quieter than road noise. 2000 miles is more than enough for any break-in.

Having said that, a differential can make a small amount of noise without any long-term damage. Best bet right now is to have a dealer record the complaint.

: I have an '01 K2500 with 8.1L and 4.10 gears. I only have 2000 miles on the truck, and noticed a whining or buzzing noise at hiway speeds from 60-70. If I let off the gas, the whine stops, as soon as I put my foot back in it, the whine starts. I figured it's coming from the rear end, don't know if it's characteristic or serious. Anyboidy else having same problem? Is it worth a trip to the dealer? This is my first time owning a GM, so not sure if I'm crying wolf.
