In fact, my '96 came with an underhood storage box - located where the 2nd battery would be on a Diesel.
It is a good place to store a few essentials. Bit of rope, spare qt of oil, paper towels.
I had a big roll of duct tape in there for a while. But with the heat of the engine nearby, it got kinda gooey.
