Good idea and I'll put it on the list of things to do that will never get done...
I overfill all of my live axles by lifting the side off the pavement that has the fill plug. Lift it as far as my equipment will go. Then fill till it starts to overflow and replace the fill plug. What this does is fill the opposite axle tube full and over half of the pumpkin too. It will spill some of the fluid out the vent tube, but what the heck, it'll act like anti rust coating. Not good for those behind you if it gets hot during a tow, but what the heck. I'm also going to put a radiator overflow bottle at the vent tube end to the bottom nipple to catch any of this overflow, hold it as reserve and it will go back down there when you stop. Vent valve will then move to the top nipple of that bottle. Side benefit is that there will be a slight "head" pressure, okay shouldn't leak if your seals are good, and will be the fill-in fluid if you should ever ford some deep water and cool the pumpkin fast (it will $uck in diff fluid from "up there" instead of water).
