I realize that a clogged filter restricts gas flow (had this happen on expressway once with a 69 Mustang) but what are other adverse effects? It's always useful to know the destruction my negligance can cause.

My Chiltons manual suggests changes of fuel filters every 6K mi. Hopefully, the previous owner of my vehicle kept up on this. On my way to the parts store.

: If you have the original fuel filter you are one hurtin' pup.

: : I know what the EGR valve is but what is the pintle?

: The EGR uses a probe called a pintle to block off or open the flow of exhaist gases to the intake manifold. There can be accumulations of crud on this transitional device. It has to be able to close off exhaust at idle and heavy throttle. Remove the EGR an the shaft-like structure is the pintle.
