How to find vacuum leaks?

I just finished some major mods on the intake side of my engine: I installed a bypass valve on my Whipple supercharger - the kits for the TBI engines don't have one, thats why they get lousy fuel economy.

Anyways, I am not sure if, with all these new mounting flanges needed for the valve, I maybe ended up creating a vacuum leak at some of the mounting flanges.

Is there a precise way to find a vaccuum leak? I found that the boost/vacuum gauge doesn't even show a difference if I disconnect a vacuum hose and create such a big leak.

So what is the proper way to check for leaks?

Christian.
