We've seen several posters who have had differential failures fixed, only to have the same problem soon after. I always tend to blame the mechanic because I've done diff setups and I know how exacting it is.
Recently reading some other web sites, I'm becoming more convinced the hypoid gear break-in period is critical. It takes 500 miles of egg-under-pedal driving to break in the geras. Then a gear oil change somewhere before 3000 miles on the new gears.
If you are out on a trip towing a trailer and the diff blows, the trailer can't be reconnected until after 500 miles of break-in. Can you think of anyone who might be tempted to cut a corner here?
