: Hi! What options were new to the '91 (the last of the "square bodies") that didn't appear on the previous years? I'm asking about things like ABS, a heavy-duty OD trans, rear-air ONLY, etc?
: I recently called a seller about one, and before driving the distance to actually look at it, I want to verify some of the things that he thinks are on there. He says it has anti-lock brakes and a heavy-duty OD trans. I didn't think those become available until the next body change, like '92-up. Was '91 the first year for them, and have there been problems?
: Also, it is supposed to have the rear ceiling-mounted vents indicating rear A/C. Would this mean that it also automatically has rear heat, or is that another separate option? Through what means is the warm rear air channeled into the back seat/cargo area? Those upper vents or somewhere else? Is rear AC ONLY possible for an option?
: Any help would be appreciated.
: I'd like to sell my '89 model (3/4 ton, 350, 4x4, tailgate, front A/C, 122K miles, new brakes, fresh headgaskets, etc.) model and find one that has cargo doors, rear heat/AC for the kids, and maybe bucket seats up front. I know that those options are easier to find on the '92-up style, but my preference for that body style is the '95 and later, and some of those get more pricey. So, in addition to investigating them, I'm also checking out the '91-earlier ones that meet the criteria.

: Thanks, in advance, for your comments, tips, and suggestions.
I still have a sales brochure at home for the '91 SUV/Vans. In it, it shows the big block as an option in 4X2 only. '92 gets the Big Block available w/ 4X4 and IFS 4X4. '91 and older still has solid axle up front. Rear Air is in the back blowing air forward like your '89 would've had. You can turn the rear fan on for air circultion, but it won't be cold until you turn on A/C from main HVAC control on dash. Most everything else is like your present '89 'Burb. Probably only difference between yours and his, is the four speed auto, and the avaible option of rear air. Otherwise, from outside, sitting inside, or driving the two, you can't tell difference. 3/4 ton w/ 350 cid, 4L80, 3.73 or 4.10, 9.5" ring gear semifloat corporate 14 bolt rearend. Good Luck.
