Not only Suburban or GM, but all makes have this potential. Also depends on what you are wearing and your body itself (some never have the problem, while others get it everywhere).
The softener works (remember those commericals showing a gal with her dress clinging and the spray that "relaxed" it). If you have keys or a ring, just remember to touch the metal door with that key/ring first. It will take the "hit" and you won't feel much if anything.
New nylon rugs get me at the door knob every time!
