Hey I've seen plenty of older 50's 60's cars cruising with ground straps dragging the ground underneath. When I was a crewchief on B-52's in the AF we had to always touch a known ground built into the flight line before working on the aircraft and the aircraft always had at least two ground straps when sitting on (no pun intended) static display.

: Couldn't find it on #1 Son's page...
: My '96 Suburban is the only vehicle I've owned that
: caused so much pain when exiting it. :-) Slide across
: that cloth seat, open the door, get out, then
: grab the metal door to close it and ZAP!! I've gotten
: arcs up to 1" long.
: My friend's mother is threatening to trade in her '97
: Tahoe because of this.
: For anyone who suffers this, here is my helpful hint.
: Apologies if this is already known...
: Inside the "fingerwell" of the door-pull/armrest, there
: are 2 little screws holding it in place. As you open
: the door and slide across the seat, make sure a finger
: is constantly touching one of the screws. It keeps
: you at the same potential as the truck, and the static
: is immediately sent to ground as you generate it.
: This will keep you from getting shocked when you grab
: the door the second time.
: I am looking into having little stainless plates made
: that will attach to the inside of the grip, with ground
: wires attached. If anyone has already developed such a
: thing, let me know. :-)
: Thanks,
