: I believe the static electricity is from the new compunds used in tires (silca) that creates the charge.......

The new compound may have complicated the solution to the problem. But the static charge problem as such has been around a LoooONG time. I used to see tanker trucks draging a chain behind them since eons ago!

When we were simulating the Apollo 11 Moon Landing during the 1968-1969 period, we were able to "bomb-out" a digital computer by dragging a chair across the floor in front of its CPU EVERY TIME!

We installed anti-static mats and outlawed non-wheeled chairs in our Laboratory ever since!
