: I have a 2000 Burb 1500. Obviously there is to be expected some front diff noise when the 4WD is engaged. But when I turn either right or left it goes beyond the normal diff sound to a louder, ominous grinding sound. Also, when parallel parking (I'm a glutton for punishment & enjoy a challenge), there is no coasting whatsoever. The car does a dead, DEAD stop when I let off the gas. The service rep at the dealership assured me this is normal. But I have had a Land Cruiser, a Subaru and an International Scout, all 4WD/AWD, and none of them did this. Anyone have a similar experience, or think the service person is FOS, or both? Thanks.

Assuming you have the part-time transfer case... while you should not intentionally drive in 4WD on dry pavement, doing so for a few miles at a time will not hurt anything, for example, changing road conditions during a snow storm. If binding is encountered in the 4WD position, the solution is to drive a few miles in 2WD.
