2001 Chevy Suburban and 2001 GMC Yukon XL are basically the same, with a few trim differences, slightlly different option packages, but both built on the same production lines.

The GMC Yukon Denali is the short model with about $ 10K of additional comfort & convenience options, a 6.0L engine and HD trans vs 5.3L and std duty trans, and full time AWD (not 4x4) with no low range vs part-time 4WD and a transfer case with a low gear range (4x4). The grille and side trim is different. It is basically the same as an Escalade but with different trim and a little less interior luxury.

The GMC Yukon Denali XL is tha same as the Suburban in size, but with the trim and srive train of the Yukon Denali short model.

If you don't want all that trim and you ever consider going off-road (even mild use) the standard Suburban or Yukon XL is fine and $ 10K less. The Denali models do not come in 2500 series heavy duty suspension & drive lines like the other full length trucks.
