I had my "service engine soon" light come on while towing with my 97 k1500 Burb yesterday. It has 97K miles. I noticed it shifting hard a day or two ago, but the hard shifting came and went mysteriously. I stopped at a transmission shop and the guy told me this was a common problem in Suburban transmissions, and there was a kit designed just for this problem code of 1870. It would cost me $300.00 I had never heard of this, so I went to the dealer, who told me they had never heard of such a kit, and that the code 1870 was a code for transmission slippage, and my valve bodies were trashed in the tranny. So, have any of you had this problem? Is it common in Suburbans? What do you think?
