The way I go around it was to get a 220V compressor. Rigged up a Plug-n-socket "pigtail" to use the drier outlet. The problem for some of you with this setup is that your drier socket may be INSIDE the house! Mine is in the garage!
If you are handy, you can wire up an additional 220V outlet to the garage. I did that 25 years ago when I had to replace the AC outlet with an 8-gauge wire. That was not a fun job though. Well, when you need it.....
