There is no need to try and get all the old lube out.

Trying to do so can open up a can of worms too. Powered metal from teeth settles in the axle tubes as a sediment. The only way to get it out is to disassemble and scrub the housing. If you try to flush the fluid or overfill the fluid level, it will stir up some of that crud and you will be worse off.

Ideally the diff should be completely disassembled, scrubbed, and replaced with new seals and any new bearings needed. Am I gonna do this, no, unless it breaks and has to come apart anyway.

What collects on the magnet is ~ 10% of the debris that is in there. The flakes that settle are so fine the crud looks like sediment in the bottom of an old can of silver paint.

Avoid RTV sealers with synthetic gear oil, just use a gasket.
