Only down side is higher rev'ing engine and the reduced milage that goes with that.
Buying a new rig or used rig? and what (weight, number of axles, trailer brakes, etc) are you planning to tow? What kind of terrain?
Ask these questions because the diff ratio is only one link in this chain. HD trailer package is mandatory for towing anything over 5K lbs, IMO. So is 3/4 ton or larger. Many more things to look at and decide on.
