I changed the 3.73 to a 4.10 on my 2001 5.3 1500 so I could pull my trailer up the steep hill to my house. 96 1500 3.73 pulled fine, but that's another topic. 4.10 might even have improved mileage around town, gets 15.8 at 70 on the freeway. Go for it, you won't know the 4.10 is in there except for a little extra poop off the line.
